About مسجد الكتبية / Mosquée Koutoubia
The Koutoubia is the minaret people navigate by. CRT Marrakech-Safi lists it as a double sanctuary with a 77 m stone minaret, first mosque inaugurated 1157, the standing minaret ordered by Abdelmoumen a year later, with a ramp to the top and green-and-white tile at the upper registers. UNESCO 331 calls the minaret an essential monument of the médina. Visitors walk the gardens and photograph the tower. The prayer hall is for Muslims. Non-Muslims stay outside. Friday prayer fills the gardens’ edge. Cyber Parc Arsat Moulay Abdeslam sits across Avenue Mohammed V. Jemaa el-Fna is five minutes east. This is a mosque and a public garden, not a mall.
